As of 2018, Contendro had 1,751 competing offspring (Dressage: 291 / Jumping: 1393 / Eventing: 67) with €6,169,325 in winnings, and 34 showjumpers earning more than €15,000.

More than 30 of his sons have been licensed so far.

At auctions, the results of Contendro’s offspring are also impressive. As of 2010, his offspring had sold for a total of EUR4.6m in Verden, the most ever for a jumper sire at the Hanoverian auctions. His son, Carlucci, sold for a top price of EUR280,000 at the 2007 Hanoverian Spring Elite Auction, and Contendro’s son, Codex One, was sold for EUR170,000. Both stallions have gone on to be successful in the show rings and as show jumping sires.

Contendro I suits breeders seeking to refine their heavier/old fashion Warmblood mares. He passes on technique over fences and his amazing elegance. He does not add height to a mare. He’ll throw nice necks, shoulders, hips, shortens backs and will improve the uphill nature of the mare if needed.

He consistently passes on a refined type, good legs and elastic movement: Active trot (suspension and push from behind), great walk and canter.

Offspring are athletic, very brave and have very social temperament.

Last but not least, he offers the flexibility to market the offspring in the three major disciplines: Jumping, Eventing, Dressage.

Contendro I needs no introduction. He is the 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 & 2019 World #1 Eventing Sire (#7 in 2023),  World #44 Jumping Sire and 18th best Hunter Sire in 2023 ! He is also the only sire in the world in the top 20 of the CSO and Eventing rankings, with also some international winners in Dressage.

Contendro I’s sire, the legendary Contender, is one of the world’s leading jumping sires. His notable offspring include the likes of Montender (Marco Kucher), individual European gold medalist 2005; Checkmate (Meredith Michaels Beerbaum), team gold WEG Kentucky 2010; and Carlo (Nick Skelton), individual European bronze medalist 2010. He can also be found in the pedigrees of the top stallions Chellano Z and Balou du Rouet.

Contendro’s first dam, Bravo, is also the dam of the licensed stallions, Caretano Z (by Caretino), 1997 Reserve Bundeschampion, 1999 World Champion of 7-year old show jumpers, and a World Cup Finalist in Gothenburg, Sweden, and of Contendro I’s full brothers Contendro II and Cassito (by Cassiano). She also gave birth to Contendro’s full sister, BB Caretana, ridden by Niklaus Schurtenberger of Switzerland, a highly successful international show jumping mare.

Contendro’s performance career was brief but outstanding.

  • He was premium stallion at his approval in 1999, in Neumünster.
  • In 2000 he won his stallion performance test in Adelheidsdorf out of a group of 39 stallions tested, with an overall score of 144.7, placing #1 in the jumping test with a score of 147.29 and 4th in the dressage test with a score of 131.09.
  • In 2001 he placed at the Holstein Riding Horse Championships and was nominated for the Bundeschampionat.

His breeding career took off so fast that Contendro became mostly a breeding stallion.
